Development Journalism Within Community Media

Journalists from all provinces in South Africa came in large numbers to be a part of the one-day journalism conference

organized by Unscripted Communication, which took place in Johannesburg, Birchwood Hotel on 11 December 2018.

Funded by Todi Media Foundation, and Facilitated by Mr Makhudu Sefara of Unscripted Communication, this conference, namely, Development Journalism within Community Media, focused mainly on sustaining and strengthening media within our communities. On this day, Mr Mathatha Tsedu, former editor of City Press and Sunday Times newspapers, also former SABC member, and currently serving as an Acting Executive Director of the National Editors Forum (SANEF), attended the conference and gave a lesson about the Development of journalism within community media at the dawn of democracy. Then and now - what the future holds for community media.

Also present was Mrs. Tasneem Motala of Government Communication Information System (GCIS) who focused on Government's support for Community Media in the context of many challenges.

Two of Radio Khwezi journalists Thembokuhle Zulu and Siphokuhle Chule attended this conference and conducted various interviews. Thembokuhle did a cross-over interview during Ezinohlonze Current Affairs, and packaged a story for Ezasekuseni Current Affairs. Sipho Chule also packaged a story for Amabalengwe Current Affairs.
