On 22 November 2012 the Department of Correctional Service in KwaZulu Natal hosted an event of donating starter kits to some parolees in this province. They also educated community members and officials about a Electronic Monitoring Project which works with a satellite to detect those that are serving their sentences out of correctional facilities. Dignitaries from the Correctional Service Head Office were also there as well as some religious leaders. Everybody was overjoyed because the department mentioned that by giving out these starter kits that include sewing machines and welding machines, they are giving parolees a chance to start their own businesses and to develop others as well.
On Saturday 22 September the King of the Zulu Nation King Goodwill Zwelithini Zulu was among the dignitaries and the community that attended the Heritage Day event that is held annually at Stanger (KwaDukuza) under Ilembe District Municipalty. This event is the way of commemorating KingShaka, son of King Senzangakhona who was the Zulu King that was victorious and formed the Zulu nation in this province. Delegates from the provincial government were there including the chiefs (amakhosi) and izinduna(headmen) from different tribes in the province.
Heinrich Botes attended the 19th International AIDS Conference in Washington DC (USA) in July 2012, as a Radio Khwezi foreign correspondent. He reported on the conference during an interview with Marius Gouws on Khwezi’s Wednesday Afrikaans actuality programme . He also set up an interview for Voice of America with the International HIV/AIDS Director of World Vision. At the Conference he met several delegates from South Africa, some of whom recognized the lanyard of his Radio Khwezi press card.
8 September...Ithala bank and Ikhwezi FM in a joint venture have started a tour from Tugela Ferry and are moving all around Kwazulu Natal. At the Ithala branches they are motivating and encouraging people to open any type of account at iThala bank. Grand prizes are up for grabs e.g. stoves, fridges and many more are available when you visit the event.
The campaign, QTLC (Quality Learning and Teaching Campaign) was launched on 29 August.This was an event that was held at KwaMenyezwayo in eMabomvini under Inkosi TTK Ngubane in KwaMaphumulo. Six schools under kwaMenyezwayo were involved in the organisation of the event including: Hlomakancane Primary School, Dangazela High School,Theo-Hlalanathi High School,Ogagwini High School, Thandayiphi High School and Mpangele High School.
